Prenatal Care Coordination

The primary goal of Prenatal Care Coordination is early entrance and continued participation in prenatal and postpartum care to reduce low birthweight, preterm labor, and infant mortality.

Prenatal Care Coordinators provide support services and referral to health and human services for pregnant women and their families at risk for poor pregnancy outcomes due to physical, social, psychological, financial, or environmental factors.

The decision by Medicaid officials to eliminate reimbursement for prenatal care coordination services on July 1, 2011 has significantly impacted the work IPN has done to support care coordination providers throughout the state. However, IPN can still serve as a helpful educational resource for home visitors who are still actively serving pregnant women and new mothers in their communities.
